Why do we allow marginalized groups to exist? Why don't we act tenaciously against exclusion? Why do we still allow there to be inequality? Inequality has increased around the world in recent years and Spain is no exception: the richest 1% of the world's population owns more wealth than the remaining 99% . It seems that we still do not want to realize that discrimination is one of the most serious scourges of our society. Today we want to put this issue on the table and ask you some questions... Will you join us? types-of-discrimination What is discrimination? When we talk about this term we are referring to different, arbitrary or unfair actions or treatments that a person, a group or an institution or organization is carrying out against another individual or towards a social group. Starting from this brief initial definition, it is time to put a voice and a face to a phenomenon that is still too common in our daily lives. Let's see it! How many types of discrimination are there? Unfortunately, this is a very broad phenomenon and is present in all environments: from the furthest away to the one next to us. So that you understand its breadth, we are going to talk to you about some types of marginalization that the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is working against.
Discrimination against people with different abilities Many people continue to be rejected by their family and ostracized by society. In India, for example, poor rural women often suffer this practice. Sarmishtha Bannerjee, an artisan from Silence, a fair trade producing group in India, was expelled from her home by her siblings when her parents died, simply because she was born deaf and gradually lost her vision due to an illness. Thanks to fair trade initiatives such as those found in the Oxfam Intermón fair trade stores, some of these Asia Mobile Number List products made by artisans who come from groups at risk of exclusion reach Spain and we can purchase them, thus doing our part. Although such extreme marginalization does not occur in our country, we do continue to create obstacles so that many people can fully enjoy their lives. Do you think you could operate without difficulties at an ATM as a wheelchair user? Do you think you could enjoy a normal day at the beach with your family? How many museums or public places still do not have access for people with reduced mobility or adapted toilets? Sarmishtha Bannerjee is an artisan from the Silence production group, from the city of Kolkata.

During the last edition of FICMA (Barcelona International Environmental Film Festival), Eva Orner presented us, through her documentary Chassing Asylum , the effects of Australian immigration laws. And you, what do you think about the policies developed by our country related to the situation of Syrian refugees? Do you think we have respected their rights? Just think about it... Discrimination against women Women continue to suffer violence , they continue to receive lower income than men for their work, they continue to suffer laws that consider them inferior to men... Recently we showed you some examples of inequality at work or how gender discrimination occurred in multiple variants, and we even outlined the Equality Plan.
